Pat McGuire (Haida, Ojibwa-Irish)

Bio

(1943-1970, Haida, Ojibwa-Irish)

Born in 1943 and raised in Skidegate, Queen Charlotte Islands, Patrick was a member of the Staastas Eagle clan. His father, Sam McGuire, was of Ojibwa-Irish decent and his mother, Nora Tulip, was Haida. Several mentors within Patrick’s family circle guided him to explore traditional Haida carving customs. These figures included his uncle Edmund Calder and another uncle, Joe Tulip, who provided the young Patrick McGuire with books to study Haida carving conventions. Patrick was also a descendant of Charles Edenshaw.
